Share Your How-To’s

One of my (many) resolutions was to provide a space for others to network and share their pages. I am not yet savvy enough to create one of those blog rings, and I don’t have thousands of followers, but I do have a page where others who are interested in growing their reach can share their posts. So, from time to time I will publish a Share Your…post. Each will be different and will provide an opportunity to extend your reach to new readership. Interested? Well, let’s do this!

Basic Guidelines:

  • Comment with the link to your post below
  • Include a brief description (optional)
  • Add your social media links if you would like to share
  • Subscribe/Follow others who post as well
  • Have fun!

Getting Organized…It’s Time

Getting organized is one of the most popular resolutions as we start a new year. I am one of those people. I proclaim that I will be an organized guru with OCD and transform my home into a page from Architectural Digest…only without the expensive furniture and the million dollar home where it resides. No…I will be the person who has a place for everything and everything will be in its place. Then reality kicks in. Where do I start?

As I begin to declutter, I notice towels that need to be put away. As I take them to the basket where they are supposed to be, I see the first aid items are in the basket so now I need to put that away first. I set the towels down and move the first aid items to the cabinet. Oh but the cabinet is a mess. So I sit down and take everything out of the cabinet to reorganize and restock the first aid stuff. Whew! Now I can put the towels back in the basket and get back to decluttering. But first another distraction. Then another. And another. Its called life.

So understanding that I dont have it all together and could use some help, I turn to one of my favorite resources. Pinterest! I pinned something to my Printables board that I found so helpful, I wanted to share. Simply Stacie has compiled a list of 29 printables that can help you get organized in this new year. From meal planning and fitness, to debt reduction and budgeting, its all there. She even has measurement equivalents and metric conversion printables you can keep in your kitchen for those recipes you have been wanting to try! I encourage you to check it out and see what sparks your interest. If you are like me, you will want to save them all!

My Triumphant Return

It has been 6 months since I have written a post. Partly because I went back to work,  partly because I went back to school, partly because I got lazy. Oh and that is part of my list of resolutions. Being completely honest. So yes. I was lazy. 2017 is off to a good start!

That being said, I am back. Back to writing. Back to sharing inspiration. Back to taking the time to share my thoughts with anyone who happens to cruise by and read through my thoughts floating through cyberspace.

To start, I have gone the crafty Pinterest route and created a vision board. Not a clip and paste type but a copy and paste type. I have taken some of the pieces that spoke to me and compiled them into one image that will drive my year. Something I hope will continue to serve as inspiration to myself and possibly evolve as the year goes on.

From starting each day with love to following my passions, striving to keep learning each day and reading more. Serving as a resource for my husband, seeking new challenges and getting organized. Acknowledging that each effort can cause ripples. Trusting my faith. Giving more. Following my bliss. Its all there. That is how I am starting 2017. A year from now, I hope to look back and see this as a springboard to an incredible year.

Guest Post – Yogurt Parfait

This is really more of a presentation/serving idea than a recipe, but it is easy!

When I have dinner guests, I always like to serve dessert. Last summer, I was looking for something a little healthier to serve my guests than the usual cake or pie. So, I decided to set up a Yogurt Parfait buffet.

If you want to go very basic, simply spoon a large container of plain yogurt into a serving dish, cut up some strawberries, and place strawberries and blueberries into separate dishes. Do the same with some granola and nuts. I used these large water glasses, and my guests made their own parfaits. In this case, the color combination is great for an Independence Day gathering if you’re in the United States.

One thing I learned – make sure you serve both regular and Greek yogurt (or know your guest’s preference). I served only Greek yogurt and, because it’s not as sweet as regular yogurt, I learned it was not the preference of some of my guests.

In the photo shown, I used organic strawberries and blueberries, because I have been reading how full of pesticides regular strawberries are in the U.S. You can add any kind of fruit or nut you like. You can make it as healthy or decadent as you like (part of the beauty of offering a buffet).

An easy, yummy, and healthy summer dessert!

Guest Post – Personal Reflections: A Journey Of Womanhood

Today I am a confident, outspoken woman but that wasn’t always the case. Like many women, I struggled with self- esteem and confidence. I was very insecure about just about everything concerning who I was.

I grew up with a single mother who was bipolar, though I don’t think it was well known back then. Women were told they suffered from anxiety. There was never really a peaceful time that I remember and I became a very reserved kid early on. The extreme highs and lows were constant a constant chaos I thought was normal. I became a people pleaser. I would stay that way for twenty or so years, anything anyone wanted me to be. I would be. Being quiet was never ok with anyone and I opened myself to bullying all the way into my adult life.

I went from one critical, controlling home to another. It was the norm to me so when I met my first husband I didn’t really grasp that it wasn’t right. I was starved for love, like many who grow up in a one-parent home. I didn’t grow up with my father and I knew nothing about how a man is supposed to be or even what a loving example looked like.

I wanted my children to grow up with two parents but that wasn’t what they had. They still had a broken home. It was then I found my voice and began evolving. I wanted them to have a mother they could be proud of. It was the beginning of figuring out who I truly was and what I was made of.

I learned the lessons no one taught me when I was young. I learned to value and take care of myself. I learned to be strong and proud of the true me. I learned to love myself. This was never an easy endeavor. Sometimes you’re the only one telling yourself how fabulous you are and you should each and every day. Even today I say out loud. “I’m going to awesome the world crazy today”.

Later when Facebook became big I connected with someone I went to school with. Actually, she was a childhood tormentor but of course, natural curiosity got the better of me so I friended her. One day, she looked at my pictures and stated that wasn’t me. I remember being angry as if she was accusing me of lying. Later, I smiled and wrote back that no that isn’t me you knew.

This doesn’t happen overnight. But you will never find peace until you embrace the authentic you. When you do that you will discover a whole new world that includes people who also embrace and accept you. People who love you for who you really are.Personal Reflections.png

A New Adventure

Not only am I back to work full time, I also started selling Younique as a side job. I didnt intend to sign up. I just wanted to try the mascara and a friend was having a party. I was hooked. Before I knew it, I had a welcome kit and the urge to share the products with friends. I started to try all the products from the welcome kit for presenters and thought I would give it a shot. Signing up as a presenter gives you a chance to sell and earn rewards but my first instinct was to just have an open account to place the occasional order and be available for others who wanted to do the same. In a matter of just 2 weeks, Ive sold nearly $700 in products & earned over $200 in commission without buying supplies, hosting house parties or doing any promotions. Not bad for just sitting back and sharing the info with a few friends.

This got me to thinking. I should share my story but I wonder how many other stories there are for other independent consultants. So I reached out to a few friends who also started a side business to share their journey. I am compiling it all now so stay tuned in the coming weeks to see the featured post.

Product Review ~ Toothbrush & Mouth Guard Shield

In keeping with the theme of Valentine’s week, I wanted to share a product review that will help keep your mouth fresh and clean so you can smooch your love freely.

IntelliDent has a couple of products that should be a staple in your home moving forward. We all know the importance of good oral health but what if you do everything right and dont cover your toothbrush or mouth guard? All of your efforts could be wiped away simply with the contamination on your oral supplies. If you dont already know, when flushing your toilet the micro splash could reach 20 feet or more. Closing the lid could help, but what if you forget? I dont know about you, but my bathroom isnt 20 feet.

Its common sense to grab a cover from the drugstore to ensure a contaminant free toothbrush. Not so fast. According to the information gathered by IntelliDent, the Centers for Disease Control actually discourage the use of plastic containers due to the probability of germ contamination. That is why the Toothbrush Shield and Mouth Guard Shield are a dynamic duo in keeping your oral health at an optimum level.

The Toothbrush Shield and Mouth Guard Shield are quick drying, disposable covers made of a non woven fabric. They wick moisture away and are breathable which reduces the chance for germ accumulation and contamination. Everyone has a toothbrush so this is beneficial to all. For those in sports or use an overnight mouth guard, these shields are a necessity.

I encourage you to check out their Twitter & Facebook account and follow for the latest updates.

7 Ways Women Over 40 Celebrate Their Birthdays

I just turned 41 over the weekend and celebrated with family & a handful of friends from high school. Nothing big. Just drinks, pizza, drinks, cupcakes…oh and drinks. Did I mention we had some drinks?

After a day of recovery (not built to party like I used to), I compiled a list sharing how others celebrated their 40th and beyond. In the weeks prior to my birthday, I did some research, polled a few people and came up with the most common answers. Most are obvious choices, although my weekend didn’t fall into these categories. Unless you consider how much laughing we did…then I suppose it fell into the Humor category!

If you are anything like me, you use humor to deal with life.

Destinations become checklist items. Tropical? Cold? Historic? Yes please!

Elaborate Dinner Party

I am talking full on knowing what spoon and fork to use type of dinner soiree.

Cocktail Crawl

Its a grown pub crawl but with cocktails instead of pints.

Wine & Dine

Steaks, bottomless wine and a dessert that takes longer to assemble than eat.

Girl’s Night Out

Sexy outfit, glam makeup and your squad!

Pajamas & A Movie

Rom-Com, Lifetime or Tearjerker style movies in your pj’s with a side of ice cream.

When you hit 40 or beyond, how did you celebrate?

It’s My Birthday!

Join me over java, a bloody mary, a cold beer or a round of shots!
