Getting Organized…It’s Time

Getting organized is one of the most popular resolutions as we start a new year. I am one of those people. I proclaim that I will be an organized guru with OCD and transform my home into a page from Architectural Digest…only without the expensive furniture and the million dollar home where it resides. No…I will be the person who has a place for everything and everything will be in its place. Then reality kicks in. Where do I start?

As I begin to declutter, I notice towels that need to be put away. As I take them to the basket where they are supposed to be, I see the first aid items are in the basket so now I need to put that away first. I set the towels down and move the first aid items to the cabinet. Oh but the cabinet is a mess. So I sit down and take everything out of the cabinet to reorganize and restock the first aid stuff. Whew! Now I can put the towels back in the basket and get back to decluttering. But first another distraction. Then another. And another. Its called life.

So understanding that I dont have it all together and could use some help, I turn to one of my favorite resources. Pinterest! I pinned something to my Printables board that I found so helpful, I wanted to share. Simply Stacie has compiled a list of 29 printables that can help you get organized in this new year. From meal planning and fitness, to debt reduction and budgeting, its all there. She even has measurement equivalents and metric conversion printables you can keep in your kitchen for those recipes you have been wanting to try! I encourage you to check it out and see what sparks your interest. If you are like me, you will want to save them all!

Are you ready for the holidays?

I don’t know about you, but I am not ready for the holidays. It always feels like as we get closer to the end of the year, it snowballs. No pun intended. (Ok maybe a little)

As I prep for a holiday meal, decor and a few gifts, time is getting away from me and I need to step it up. That’s where you come in! I need some inspiration. I need fellow bloggers to share their must have’s for the holidays. Whether you follow a specific religion, are more spiritual or just enjoy this time of year, I am interested in learning what makes it special for you.

Do you have a go-to meal that you share with your family year after year? Is there a tradition you remember from your childhood? Has that tradition carried through til now? Do you have a piece of decor or special ornaments that you use each season? Even the smallest of things that make your holidays special…that is what I would love to learn.

If you care to share in the comments, by all means please do. Especially if its a recipe we could all enjoy! If you prefer to message me privately, you can DM me on my twitter profile @mrsmotta.

I know you have something to share…inspire me!

Let the festivities begin!

I am in full Thanksgiving mode! I have most of the groceries needed for dinner except for a few of the fresh items I will need in the days beforehand. Some of the holiday decor is out and making the house feel warm and cozy. The 80 degree So Cal weather helps with that too!

Considering this is my favorite holiday, I am excited not just to cook for my family but to share it all with you. Some will be cooking wins, some may be epic fails but all will be made with love. Rather than post pics of previous years, I will share with you what I want to make this year and once dinner is done, I will share the fruits of my labor.

dinner rolls Dinner rolls…from scratch. Yes I am going to try this so keep your fingers crossed. For me, bread and butter are awesome so if the bread isnt warm and soft, its a fail.

creamed cornCreamed corn is a step up from the traditional corn served on our Thanksgiving table. Looks delish!

sausage stuffing Sausage stuffing is a family favorite. Its a recipe I have done since I was a kid helping my parents prep the night before. Mixing everything together and getting elbow deep as a kid are some of my fondest memories.

slow cooker mashed

Slow cooker mashed potatoes are a big deal to some but this will be my first venture into this method. I normally either boil the potatoes or use instant. (Dont judge…instant are yummy too!)

apple pie cake Apple Pie cake is a new addition to this year’s menu. Normally its pumpkin, mince & apple pies but I am going to try this out. Apples & cinnamon are always good!

Pumpkin pie dip is a light but sweet addition to the pre-dinner feast. We have made this on several occasions and its a hit!pumpkin pie dip

There are of course other items like the turkey, a ham, some cranberry sauce & gravy too. Just thinking of the way the house smells with everything cooking and the comfort of family by my side…I am truly thankful. Although I wont have all of my loved ones at my table, I am blessed to know they are just a phone call away.

You can view all the recipes for these sides on my boards. I cant wait…

Supportive Partners

By now you know I am a HUGE fan of Pinterest, partly because I am exposed to things I may not see first hand. That network of possibilities is exciting to me. Its an incredible resource for food, drinks, decor, hacks and sometimes, a surprisingly meaningful link that changes you. I came across one such link that was a must to pin and it launched a board I like to call ♡happy wife♡. I pinned True Agape. Though the theme within the site is faith based, know that the topics shared transcend religious affiliation. Love is love.

The couple that created this site, Ryan & Cassie, have created a resource for couples that is filled with ways to stay connected, grow together and be active. With a blog, a diy section, links and personal stories, I can spend all day on their site and there would still be more to discover.

One entry in particular is about apps that could strengthen marriage. They mention being apprehensive about allowing smart technology in their relationship. Personally, technology is a huge part of my household so although I understood where they were coming from, it just appealed to me even more. The apps, Cozi, Avocado & Dare2Share, each have their own draw and all are meant to drive a meaningful forward. The time it required to test out and review these apps was considerable, which translates into the care taken by Ryan & Cassie in their pursuit to share quality posts with their viewership. For that I am grateful.

Again, I cannot express enough that True Agape is a resource for all. If you are seeking to maintain a meaningful and connected relationship with your partner, I suggest you take some time and visit their site.

DIY Projects Using Pallets

Over the course of cruising through blogs, pins and the DIY channels, I have been inspired with the uses of upcycled items. I have shared some of the tips previously however, I am thinking larger scale. Something that most see as industrial use only. Pallets.

We have seen some use the pallets in the home for decor, disassembled for multi-purpose wood framing and for outdoor patio use. I had no idea just how many options there were. That is until I came across this free e-book. Karah Bunde published DIY Wood Pallet Projects: 35 Rustic Modern Upcycling Ideas to Personalize Your Space and its phenomenal. bundeIts comprehensive and full of ideas that I want to try. Some are out of my comfort zone where others are easier for beginners like me.

The e-book is optimized for chrome desktop viewing so if you cannot see it properly, you can view it here.

With my limited experience, I was pleased to see the step by step instructions and pics illustrating not just how to use some of the tools, but the types too. Now when I walk into Home Depot, I can say ‘Hey I need a medium grit for my palm sander’ and they will think I am way more experienced!
